There is a difference between a fast paced novel and a rushed novel and this one definitely falls into the later category.Īlong the lines of this novel being rushed, there were details left out. It was so sudden and out of the blue, it almost turned me off the book completely. It took all of four pages before Arlo was sobbing in Faenir's arms and all his reason's for not liking Faenir are forgotten. All it took for Arlo to actually throw himself into Faenir's arms was Myrinn telling him about why the queen hated Faenir. I was hoping that we would get a slow build up of the enemies to friends to lovers, but by the time I was halfway through the book and they still hated each other, I knew I wasn't getting it. However, even taking out the lack of worldbuilding or descriptions, it's still much to rushed.

I haven't read the first book in this universe, so my lack of knowledge about the world may be because of that. For the amount of content that this book has there is not nearly enough book to fit it all.

On the other hand, I really didn't like this book. I follow him on Tiktok and I was genuinely excited for him to be publishing. On the one hand, I like Ben Alderson as a person. My feelings about this book are complicated.
